We dont think when we are uploading our pics online whether its on a social networking or image hosting site here is a fact that will shock you a recent survey by cambridge university students which got a shocking results about the privacy of users pictures.
The study was to check whether the sites do really delete the pictures from their server when we delete from our side the experiment was for 30 days researchers uploaded the pictures on 16 popular websites which includes popular social networking site Facebook and other image hosting sites like Yahoo’s Flickr, Google’s Picasa, Microsoft’s Windows Live Spaces and noting their Url’s where the images had been stored and then deleting them from thier sites.
The researchers claim they were able to find the deleted picture on seven out of sixteen sites including the Facebook by using the direct url’s of the photo after the photo was deleted from their side althrough Facebook claims that the deleted photos are removed from their servers immediately althrough sites like Flickr, Picasa & Windows Live Spaces did better they removed the pictures instantly.
This demonstates how the sites often take a very lazy approach to the users privacy however the typical user would think the picture has been deleted.
